Detailed 3 Days Chimpanzee Tracking Kibale National Park Itinerary
Day 1: Kibale Forest National Park
Pick up from your residence after breakfast followed by a drive to
Kibale National Park (5-6 hours) with en route stops at interesting sites like along the plenty of tea plantations along the way and relaxational lunch stop in Fort Portal Town, and later proceed to Kibale National at booked hotel with en route crater drive, checking into the booked lodge in the evening for overnight and dinner.
Day 2: Explore the Kibale Forest Experience (Full Day)
On this day you have the option of participating in a full-day of learning the lifestyle of the
chimpanzees (a process called habituation) or simply learning the highlights of their lifestyle through trekking them and seeing their daily life preview.
Option one: Chimps Habituation:
You may choose to learn the life style of
chimpanzees (the closest relatives to humans) for a full day (a process called habituation). While walking through the forest, the guide will educate you on the various flora and fauna found in the park. You will also witness how the chimps de-nest their nocturnal nest (something they do each morning), feed, groom the young, play and construct new nests in the evening, etc.
The park supports the highest concentration of primates in the world: there are 13 species, including Black-and-White Colobus, Red Colobus, L’Hoests monkeys, baboons, Bush babies, and abundant chimpanzees. While over 325 avian species are recorded in
Kibale, there are also 144 species of butterflies and moths to be found here. We suggest a packed lunch, as this might be very engaging and long.
Option Two: Chimpanzee Trekking in Kibale
After an early breakfast, you will enjoy a guided nature walk in the tropical rainforest in search of the wild
chimpanzees, red-tailed monkeys, black-and-white colobus monkeys, and many others.
Afternoon activity shall depend on the chosen activity (between the above as each requires a different level of time commitment). In case you choose the option of
chimpanzee trekking, then after lunch we will take you for a guided nature walk in the Bigodi Wetland Sanctuary.
The sanctuary offers great birding opportunities and nature walks. Besides birding, Bigodi village has a rich cultural heritage site where you can mix with the local people and enjoy the African traditions in terms of lifestyle and entertainment. Later you will return to the lodge for dinner and overnight.
