Restricted numbers of viewing permits help protect the endangered gorilla families in this deep nighttime forest. In the park, rough paths weave amid the extremely heavy dense forests, which are home to many butterflies and birds. The most authentic Bwindi Safari activities include: Cultural Encounters in Bwindi, Hiking/Nature Walks in Bwindi, Cycling/Mountain Biking in Bwindi from the park headquarters at Buhoma Sector to the River Ivi, Birding in Bwindi Impenetrable National Park that unwinds to over 350 bird species recorded, including 23 endemics (90% of all Albertine Rift endemics) such as the Short-tailed Warbler and Blue-headed Sunbird as well as seven IUCN red data listed species.
