Home stay experience in an Ugandan Community

Join our homestay tours. Visit a typical home in Uganda and learn the culture and ways of living of the local people.
There are various activities you will indulge yourself like, milking cows, churning milk to get butter, gardening, grinding millet to get flour, preparing and cooking food using firewood, making banana juice and a lot more.
Better still join the local women in basketry, weaving mats, table clothes and various crafts. Listen to the local folk songs and stories as you work with the women. There is local cultural entertainment in the evenings to relax your mind after a long day of work.
You can also volunteer at a nearby primary school and hospital, take walks to the hot spring or simply ride in the community.

 

Location:
A small village near Rukungiri. Two hours drive from Queen Elizabeth, Bwindi or Lake Bunyonyi.

 

Accommodation:
In our village in Rukungiri we offer different guest rooms in different houses with double beds, single beds and bunk beds. Each guest house have a shower. Hot water is prepared on request with a donkey. There are two outdoor flush toilet. We have an outdoor kitchen with  wood fire. In addition, there is a further cooking area with gas connection in the house.   

 

Program:Day 1: Arriving at lunch time. You will get an typical Ugandan meal. At afternoon you can milking cows and see how to cook at wood fire.

 

 

Day 2: After breakfast you learn how to make Peanutsauce and Matoke. After lunch you will make coffee.
At afternoon you can join the local women in basketry, weaving mats, table clothes and various crafts. Listen to the local folk songs and stories as you work with the women. There is local cultural entertainment in the evenings to relax your mind after a long day of work.

 

Day 3: At morning you will see how to make Banana juice in a traditional way. Later you return for breakfast. After lunch you can visit the nearby school or take a walk to the hot spring.
At evening you can enjoy a barbecue.

 

Day 4: After breakfast you will proceed your journey.
