1 Day Mabamba Bay Bird watching trip
This is one of the best ways to enjoy a birding tour in Uganda especially for the most sought after bird species like the Shoebill stork. Mabamba Bay is a swamp located on the edge of Lake Victoria, northwest of the Entebbe. It is one of Uganda’s Important Bird Areas (IBA) and since 2006 due to its protection of key bird species in like the shoebill, the blue swallow and the papyrus gonolek.
Mabamba Bay is a unique extensive marsh stretching along a narrow bay, fringed with papyrus towards Lake Victoria. It lies between Busi Island and Buwaya/Zziba village on the mainland, this marshland forms part of Buwaya Bay, South-west of Nakiwogo Bay both located west of Entebbe International Airport.

Full Safari Itinerary
For Mabamba Birding, We shall set off after an early breakfast at the hotel with packed lunch and travel to Mabamba Swamp to spot the rare shoebill stork. The journey takes about an hour by road through Nakawuka-Kasanje. The wetland is home to a wide range of bird species and birding will take us a whole day.
A canoe ride through papyrus swamp will take you at the best spot of spotting the most sought after bird the Shoebill bird among other rare Africa bird species like the African Purple Swamphen, Malachite Kingfisher, African Water Rail, Common Moorhen, Swamp Flycatchers, Lesse Jacana, African Jacana, African Pygime Goose, Blue reasted Bee eater, White faced whistling duck, Squacco heron, African Jacana and Saddle billed Stork, among others. We shall return to hotel later in the afternoon.
