May 24th, 2019

RWANDA GORILLA TREKKING PERMITS
Gorilla permit is a document issued by government authorities to travelers to allow them to be guided in to the forest in search for habituated gorilla groups in their natural home in the forest. Rwanda Development Board is the only authorized government body to issue this document in Rwanda. Gorilla Trekking takes place in the Volcanoes national park that is located in the northern part of Rwanda. It’s a 2hrs drive from Kigali International airport making it the most accessible national park for the travelers.

Cost of Gorilla Permits in Rwanda
Gorilla permits cost $1500 per person in Rwanda for all travelers who intend to visit habituated mountain Gorillas. The cost was raised in May 2017 by Rwandan authorities from $750 per person to $1500. The purpose of the increase was to conserve the national park while they maintain the revenues from the Gorilla tracking activity. The other reason was to distinguish Rwanda as a High end destination for high end class. This is witnessed by the luxurious accommodation in Kigali city.

When to book gorilla Permits in Rwanda
There are two major seasons in which travelers like traveling and each traveler’s choice depends on their preference.
Peak Season
This period is normally December to February and June to August. These months are generally drier and with a big number of visitors coming to Rwanda for Gorilla Tracking. Booking a gorilla permit must be done early enough because of the high demand for these permits each day. The good about the peak season is the trails are clear and not slippery making tracking much easier compared to the wet season. Shoebill safaris will guide you through this by booking your gorilla Permit and organizing the entire trip for you.
Low Season
This season runs in March to May and September to November. These months are very wet with rain all the time. The trails and the vegetation in volcanoes National Park are wet during this period and the trails may be slippery compared to the dry season. Gorilla Tracking takes place though you may be interrupted by the rain. Make sure you carry waterproof and warm clothes ready for this season. Though the rains may be heavy, the sun comes later on in the day and the ground is clear for gorilla trekking to resume without much interference. Do not fear to book your gorilla Permit because you still can go for your exciting moment with the Gorillas in Volcanoes National Park.
Shoebill Safaris will take all the responsibility on your behalf to book the gorilla permit and organize all other tour activities that you wish to add to your Gorilla safari.
